The Beginning
A story of hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence
Founded by Jerry Hop
J & H Oil Company was founded in 1969 by Jerry Hop. Equipped with only a $600 tank truck and himself, Jerry worked long hours delivering fuel to a small collection of commercial customers. Jerry’s first noteworthy opportunity for growth came when he won the bid to fuel the equipment used to build I-196 from Grand Rapids to Holland.
First Retail Location
In 1976, Jerry expanded his focus toward retail by opening his first convenience store. The Pit Stop on Chicago Drive in Wyoming, which is still open today, started as a 12’x12’ store and a small fuel island, and has grown to be one of our busier locations. Jerry’s commitment to hard-work, service and quality has led to the vast and rapid growth of J & H Oil and J & H Family Stores.
Serving Michigan
Over the past fifty years, J & H Oil Company has grown to supply hundreds of commercial customers and more than 200 retail locations across Michigan—including 75+ company-owned and operated convenience stores and 140+ dealer-supplied locations—spanning from East Lansing to Holland, and Cadillac to Kalamazoo.
We offer commercial fuel delivery, a complete line of proven lubricants, and three wholesale divisions located in Wyoming, Cassopolis, and Owosso—while remaining family-owned and operated as second and third-generation family members build on Jerry’s vision.
Our philosophy remains unchanged since 1969: courteous customer service, quality products, and safe, clean, modern facilities—plus a deep commitment to community involvement and charitable giving.
