J & H Oil Company was founded in 1969 by Jerry Hop. Equipped with only a $600 tank truck and himself, Jerry worked long hours delivering fuel to a small collection of commercial customers. Jerry’s first noteworthy opportunity for growth came when he won the bid to fuel the equipment used to build I-196 from Grand Rapids to Holland. In 1976, Jerry expanded his focus toward retail by opening his first convenience store. The Pit Stop on Chicago Drive in Wyoming, which is still open today, started as a 12’x12’ store and a small fuel island, and has grown to be one of our busier locations. Jerry’s commitment to hard-work, service and quality has led to the vast and rapid growth of J & H Oil and J & H Family Stores.
